Un Caffe Altamura

A warm addition to the lively South Bay restaurant scene, Un Caffe Altamura beckons a sense of community and diversity with a dynamic, internationally inspired menu and wine bar. We partnered with the owner to fully design and renovate the downtown Manhattan Beach space. A blank canvas so to speak. Our inspiration was derived from traditional French brasseries, moody memories abroad, international artists, high quality craftsmanship in the details and subtle, abstract nods to the seaside location. We designed soft hued, custom banquettes in vegan leather to run the length of one entire wall with curved backs like undulating waves. We enlisted a local muralist to depict a figural scene reimagined from Greek antiquity. A specialty bar was designed for high traffic use and storage, while outfitted with black and white stone countertops, embossed braided leather paneling and antiqued brass accents. The daily European ritual of pausing to enjoy one's coffee in a vast land of "to-go" cups, became the name of the restaurant itself. Un Caffe Altamura . . encouraging slow, seasonal fare and conscious consumption.
